Odysseus and Nausicaa

In the epic poem Odyssey by the Greek bard Homer, Nausicaa is the daughter of Alcinous, king of the Phaeacians in the eastern Mediterranean. Homer tells how Odysseus, on his way home from fighting in the great Trojan War, was shipwrecked and landed on the shores of her father's kingdom. Nausicaa at the time was going to the shore with several companions. Nausicaa takes pity on Odysseus and advises him on how to get an audience with the king, which he does. Once at court, Odysseus recounts the tales of his travels. In this illustration, Odysseusis following Nausicaa in her chariot to the palace.
