The Greeks have taken control of Troy and set it afire. The Trojan hero Aeneas prepares to escape Troy and capture by the Greeks. Aeneas manages to get his father (Anchises), son (Ascanius), and wife (Creusa). In the turmoil of escaping, Creusa somehow is lost. He doesn't understand what has happened and turns back to find her. As he looks, her ghost appears to him (as seen here) and tells him that Fate had decreed he leave Troy and that he would remarry in his new homeland.
