Amos Judd is a novel written in 1895 by J.A. Mitchell (1845-1918). It takes place against a background of civil war in northern India. The seven-year-old rajah is smuggled out by three faithful followers - two Hindus and one American. The boy was brought to a Connecticut farmhouse and given the name Amos Judd. As he grew up, he had the amazing ability to foresee events. The caption accompanying this illustration in the novel: I beg your pardon. I was startled. Miss Cabot had gone to find some cooler air and was by a conservatory when she was startled by the presence of someone - it turned out to be Mr. Judd and his companion, a pretty girl in pink.
