This illustration dates to around 1898 and depicts the Hindu god Siva (also spelled Shiva). Siva was part of the Trimurti. In Hinduism, the Trimurti represent the supreme divinity. This triad of deities usually is as follows: Brahma is the creator, Vishnu is the preserver, and Siva is the destroyer. Here Siva is pictured with Nandi, the bull and gate-guardian of Siva's abode, Kailasa. Nandi is bearer of truth and righteousness.
