The Norse Freyr (also spelled Freye and Frey) was the brother of Freyja, the goddess of fertility, love and marriage, and light and peace. Freyr was associated with agriculture, the weather, and fertility. Freyr was also associated with horses. This illustration dates to around 1898 and shows Freyr riding the wild boar Gullinbursti (Gold Mane or Golden Bristles).
