Erich Ludendorff was a German general and was vitorious in the Battle of Liege and Battle of Tannenberg. He and Hindenberg led the war efforts of the First World War, but the failure of the Spring Offensive in 1918 led to his ousting later that year. Paul von Hindenburg commanded the German military during the second half of World War I and, in 1925, was elected President of the Weimar Republic. He appointed Adolf Hitler chancellor in 1933. The zeppelin Hindenburg that was destroyed by fire in 1937 was named in his honor.
