The Chiesa di San Benedetto (Church of Saint Benedict)  is a church in Venice, northern Italy. Generally known as San Beneto in the Venetian dialect, it is on the Campo San Benedetto in Venice. It was founded in the 11th century and rebuilt in 1685. San Beneto is in the parish of San Luca. John Ruskin was the leading English art critic of the Victorian era, as well as an art patron, draughtsman, watercolorist, philosopher, prominent social thinker and philanthropist. He wrote on subjects as varied as geology, architecture, myth, ornithology, literature, education, botany and political economy. The 'lamps' of the title are Ruskin's principles of architecture.
