The caption for this 1912 image reads: ""Floating Palace of an Emperor. This picture of the wonderful floating palace that was built by the Roman emperor Caligula gives some idea of the magnificence of Cleopatra's galley, for Caligula's remarkable vessel, the remains of which lie under the waters of Lake Nemi in Italy, was probably made after the model of a famous galley belonging to one of Cleopatra's forefathers."" Caligula died AD 41.
