Amos Judd is a novel written in 1895 by J.A. Mitchell (1845-1918). It takes place against a background of civil war in northern India. The seven-year-old rajah is smuggled out by three faithful followers - two Hindus and one American. The boy was brought to a Connecticut farmhouse and given the name Amos Judd. As he grew up, he had the amazing ability to foresee events. The caption accompanying this illustration in the novel: How much do they represent, the whole lot. The men at table are Amos Judd,  Mr. Morton Judd, and the General who brings forth from inner pocket a small silk bag with a handful of precious stones, including rubies. In the background is a young boy almost asleep on a sofa.
