Whaleship Charles W. Morgan
Légende
This vintage postcard from the 1930s shows the whaleship Charles W. Morgan tied up at the dock at Colonel Edward H.R. Green's estate at Round Hill in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts. The Morgan, who was named for her original owner who was a Quaker businessman in New Bedford Massachusetts, is the only surviving wooden whaling ship from the 19th-century fleet. Her maiden voyage was in 1841 and she was out of New Bedford, Massachusetts, which was known as the whaling capital of the world. She made 37 voyages, from 1841 to 1921. In disrepair, she was saved from being scrapped by Colonel Green (Hetty Green's son) who bought her in 1924. Here she is shown tied up at his dock, where he kept her. In 1941, she went to Mystic Seaport, where she remains part of their exhibits to this day.
