This 1940s postcard shows the entrance to Chimney Rock in North Carolina. Chimney Rock was opened to the public in 1885. Until 1946, hundreds of stairs led to the top, Chimney Rock, a giant monolith that towers over a 10-mile gorge. It has been and remians a popular tourist attraction.
