Phillips Brooks

Phillips Brooks (1835-1893) was an American Episcopalian clergyman. He served as a preacher at Trinity Church in Boston, Massachusetts, from 1869 to 1891 and was very influential in the community at large. In 1891, he became the Episcopalian bishop of Massachusetts. He wrote the well-known hymn ""O Little Town of Bethlehem."" This 1893 engraving, based on a photograph of Brooks, is by T. Johnson. The signature is Brooks'.
